Born
and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, Rena Hayes has always been known
as a “PK” or pastor’s kid. Raised in the church, she learned to play
the piano at the tender age of 6 which is where her musical inspiration
began. Rena attends the Door of Faith Christian Church where she is the
Lead Musician, Head Choir Directress, and Chief Minstrel of Worship. A
spirited and highly energetic worshipper, Rena began serving
actively for the church at the age of 16 and dedicated her life to
serving Christ. She was always ready and willing to participate in any
way she could. Under the direction of her father, Reverend Earl
Crump, who Pastors one of the largest Churches in the city of
Pontiac, Rena has been in leadership as the Minstrel of Music for
over the past 22 years. She is also an ordained Minister. Rena
is no stranger into leading people in the presence of God. “I was
created to do this,” she explains, “and I can’t even imagine doing
anything else.”
Rena has always been able to take traditional songs
and make them her own. She found inspiration by changing words to
increase the message of faith and adding her own flavor - all while
still respecting the original song writer. With the anointing that can
only come from spending time with God, Rena has found new and
innovative ways to speak and sing the old truth. It is with her
Contemporary Christian Rock sound, blended with an Urban Gospel Edge,
that Rena brings an undeniable message to provoke the presence of
God while compelling others to praise Him.
The title of her first
release “Yet Will I Praise Him” is a testimony to the
message that, although life brings many obstacles, you can get through
them with prayer and praise! Knowing that even if nothing physically
changes, that he still deserves the praise as He is God no matter what
comes our way. It is in this state where you give him the praise,
without regards for your natural fulfillment, where God will step in and
open doors unexpectedly.
Rena’s goal for this C.D. project is for
people ears to be drawn to her music, hearts to be touched by her lyrics
and spirits will be lifted by the message, while compelling them to want
a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
Rena has pulled
together some great, young talents to reach the nations with her
message. Ron Jackson from Smash Hits Productions,
one of the most talented Minstrel and producers in the business, along
with her younger brother Joshua Crump from JCRUMP Sounds,
who together create a sound that is to be desired. Both are young and
edgy understanding traditional and contemporary Gospel as well as many
other Genres. In touch with the younger generation, while generating a
sound that can be appreciated by all age groups, they have the sound of
tomorrow!
Rena has been featured on
the Stellar Award Winning Dorinda Clark-Cole new television
program “Dorinda” and has also been interviewed by “Choir Boy
Bell” on MotownGospelRadio.Com. She has appeared on TCT
Live Television World Wide and has been featured in the Oakland Press.
Still serving in Ministry,
Rena has been allocated opportunities to open up Musical Events for
Gospel Music Favorites, Kierra
"Kiki"Sheard,
